Bases may get the axe
O.K. folks, here it is: The list of bases that the Pentagon wishes to terminate. I don't like these closures anymore than you, but strangely, this list was hard to find on the Internet. Go to the U.S. Department of Defense's website on the matter (Click Here), and become ensnared in a tangle of verbose documents and pdf files that take 10 minutes to load. On second thought, forget it. Just click "read more" for the list.
Do keep in mind that although the Pentagon wishes these bases shut down, along with the communuties that support them, there is still plenty of time for our favorite congresspeople to dissent, protest, and lay themselves down in front of the bulldozers that may sweep through and demolish these intriguing fortresses.

Barry K. Kindle, my cousin of Elkhart, Indiana, died in Winter Haven, Florida on Tuesday of heart failure. He was an engaging optimist who certainly knew how to embrace life! In his final years, he managed staff at Sea World in Florida and enjoyed a happy and fulfilling marriage to Lee Ann Kindle. Our families (the Kindles, the Culveyhouses, the Russos, the Riefs, and the Rouches) shall always remember him as a brave soul who refused to bow to handicap or disability.
I always try to match classical works with current events in my life, and for the passing of Barry Kindle, I reflect on an elegy by the British composer Herbert Howells called Threnody. It is a deep but beautiful work for cello and orchestra, and Howells composed this in memory of his lost son.
His father, Jack Kindle, published an elegiac poem in memory of Barry, and you can read it HERE.
Here is the full obituary:
